Lone worker &

man down alarms

Utility sites rely on staff working alone and remotely. It’s essential that employees and contractors are protected.

Essential functions such as lone worker and man down alarms demonstrate an organisation's commitment to safe and efficient working practices. The Push-to-Talk radios have lone worker function configured so they operate automatically as a failsafe, removing the need for staff to physically put them in operation. This hugely benefits new staff or contractors coming on to site.

ComBus configure beaconing technology to track radios and smart devices, even inside structures and buildings, giving clients an accurate insight into their personnel’s location. When there is a radio in range of the beacon, it sees the device and reports via ComBus back to the application with the device identity and position. This works seamlessly alongside GPS radio features for tracking workers who are beyond the range of the internal beacons.

By using a combination of beaconing and GPS, the application now knows the exact location of any individual radio or smart device. From there it’s a small step to add functionality that gives lone worker protection. These functions require workers to check in as a response to an automatically generated enquiry. Each device has a unique reference that is assigned to an individual worker.

Business Management Systems, provided by ComBus, give up to the minute information and alarms. Where premises are unmanned BMS provide access when an entry gate is approached. Staff, who are located away from the site in question, receive an access request which they forward to the security team on site.

The same system can also be configured to raise an alarm to escalate processes when an operation begins to fail. Much of this happens by integrating alarms and telemetry on site. Systems of this kind may also extend to site security protection alerting remote operators of any perimeter incursions or site interior sensors that are triggered.
